Will Wheaton, Jr.
Singer/Songwriter
Blessed with a sensual baritone bass voice,
Will Wheaton Jr. is an extraordinarily refreshing singer/songwriter.
His fertile gospel background helps him cultivate his own unique sound
that is rich and gritty. With a deep resonant voice, reminiscent of
his earlier influences Barry White and Teddy Pendergrass, Will strips
away the veneer of a traditional ballad with vocal prowess and perfection
usually reserved for such contemporary artist as Luther Vandross or
Maxwell. He has an articulated gift of creating music with heart and
range, effortlessly crossing the lines of Pop,R&B & alternative
soul.
Born in Laurel, Mississippi and raised in
Los Angeles, Will was initially attracted to music through the efforts
of his mother who sang gospel songs to him at the early age of three.
He would then recite the melodies back to her with amazing clarity and
quality. It was while continuing to sing in his church choir that he
discovered, as a performer, his music could stir the emotions, enrich
the mind and touch the souls of the audience.
Will began honing his craft, and studied widely
with some of the best, including:
Furman Fordham, whose students include Lena
Horne.
He quickly earned a reputation as an accomplished background vocalist
by working with a stellar lineup of talent as Michael Bolton, Natalie
Cole, Coolio, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Barbara
Streisand, Montel Jordan, Kenny Loggins, Whitney
Houston, Diana Ross, Chaka khan, Etc.....
In 1992, will emerged victorious in Dick
Clark's talent competition USA Music Challenge: He received
a recording contract with MCA records along with numerous prizes and
accolades. In 1995, Will was selected by star Producer David Foster
to be a part of a new vocal group, "Next Millennium". He wrote
and produced four songs for the album with Foster, And credits that
experience for bringing him to this point in his career."David
taught me that good enough would not do, and for that I will be eternally
grateful". In addition, Will's melodic voice can be heard on the
new American Express "Freedom"jingle and various other commercials.
In 1998 Will completed a project on his own
label "Platinum Bass Records". The CD entitled "Consenting
Adultz"was released in the winter of 99. The CD is an erotic yet
romantic 12 song set performed, produced, and written by Will. In 2000
BET (Black Entertainment Television) chose 3 songs from the CD
for their movie of the week Midnight Blue. Will was also a featured
singer in Ben Stiller's smash Mystery Men and hand picked to
do some bass singing on the score of the mini series Temptations.
Will has worked extensively with Japanese superstar Namie Amuro
on her Love 2000 tour and her current album releases. Rod Stewart
also utilized Will's talent last year for his new release and for some
live performances.
Although Will is known mostly for his work
with other artist, nothing compares to Will's own live show. It's a
sensual mix of his own mood music and R&B classics designed to rock
the house in more ways than one. Defintely one of the hottest shows
in L.A. Will performs at numerous L.A. hot spots including Crustaceans
& Stevie's Creole Cafe to name a few. Will's band "Consenting
Adultz"consist of some of L.A.'s hottest players. "Ooh It's
off the hook", says a fan after Will's show.
To his songwriting credits, Will has placed
five songs from his catalog on several projects: Earth Wind &
Fire, on their "In The Name Of Love"CD: Will Downing
on his "Invitation Only"release: a pop duet featuring Koko
of SWV on Tevin Campbell's latest release: a cut on Iyanla
Vanzant's "In The Meantime"CD featuring Terry Bradford
and Eurpean sensation Sony Records artist Anastacia's "Not
That Kind" which Will co-wrote with Young Mc. The single
"Not That Kind"topped the charts in all overseas markets last
year. To date it has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.
Will adamantly maintains his family is most
important, and this close knit relationship is responsible for his creative
strength, his vocal tapestry of melodies and the rhythm that is potently
extracted from his gospel roots.
